blasphemer: B330 + triangular truss station (2018)
Design summary
- v1. Two B330s, a triangular truss and a Destiny-like core; 230 m diameter (Mars g at 2 rpm, Earth g at <3 rpm) blasphemer, 2018-07-13.
- v2. 4 B330s (2 at each end), 250 m, ~1500 m³, a dozen BFR launches; a 1.4 m diameter, 97 m tunnel blasphemer, 2018-07-14; blasphemer, 2018-07-14. A conservative 104 m two-module version blasphemer, 2018-07-14.
- blasphemer notes that the docking port must be on the spin axis for both station and visitor blasphemer, 2018-07-15. His first thread post argued for rotating the hub too, with ships matching rotation blasphemer, 2014-02-16.
Critiques raised
- Paul451: 0.38 g at 2 rpm needs a 170 m diameter; at 5 rpm ~30 m, so no truss is needed (module–dock–module). "What is 1 g for? We already have 1 g" Paul451, 2018-07-13; Paul451, 2018-07-14.
Open questions
- Is a 2–3 rpm truss station worth the size penalty over a 5 rpm compact baton?
